Summary
Stand By Me is an adventure story of four young friends Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern who live in a little town in Oregon, Castle Rock. Vern overhears a conversation between Vern's brother and a friend about the whereabouts of a missing body: Ray Brower. When Vern first tells his buddies of the body, they are skeptical of the idea to search for it, but after some persuasion all four decide to go along .Since the missing boy is the talk of the Castle Rock, the boys decide to make the two day journey to where the body supposedly is, report it and be the local heroes. Through their journey, they encounter many challenges including a relentless guard dog, being run over by a train, and running low on food. To make matters even worse, they decide to take a shortcut through a swamp infested with leeches. At this point the group is left wondering if it is even worth it to continue on, but realizing how much time and effort they've put in so far they see no option but to carry on. Once finding the body, the local gang of older (probably high school) kids shows up in their cars to take the body and be the local heroes. Gordie holds them at gunpoint and decides that nobody should get credit for finding the body. He makes an anonymous phone call to the local police who proceed to handle the situation. The boys return to Castle Rock and say good bye to each other.
